~Trumpets~ Presenting: Deborah Lippmann ‘Across the Universe’

Oh yeah, baby doll. FINALLY. The moment we’ve all been waiting for…LMAO! Sadly, this polish has been out for AGES and I am so behind the times, but you know what? I don’t even care, because it’s all mine now!!! And I’m pleased as punch about that. And since you’re here reading this, you’re gonna get to experience the joy like it was the first time all over again :D

Now. This polish as you know is quite sheer. When I first bought it, I was so excited to try it on that I did so without a base color, which is absolutely necessary. Three coats with no base – really not so great. You just don’t get enough depth of color to really showcase it properly. I applied base coat, then one coat of Essence ‘My Boyfriend’s Jeans’ which is a deep royal blue bordering on teal. Quite pretty on its own actually. Then I applied three coats of ATU to make sure the shimmer/glitter sequins were dense enough to my liking. One coat of top coat was used in the photos but I’m considering adding another to make it really smooth.

I took these photos with my new camcorder which I got for free from work because of a project my team worked on (oh, the government). They’re somewhat grainy-ish but I wanted to try it out and while they’re not the best quality, the different colored glitter in the polish looks really apparent. The last pic I did with my regular camera which highlights the shimmer better.
I have to say, when I first put it on…I wasn’t as impressed as I’d hoped.  I felt it was hyped up too much, by myself as well as everyone else.  But in about 5 minutes, I was totally smitten.  It’s just such an interesting polish that really catches the eye with the sequins and the different shades and dimensions.  I can’t imagine this looking bad on anyone, its dark enough to suit every skintone but clearly not black.  Utterly fabulous, and entirely worthy of being my birthday mani.

So, what do you think?  For those who have it: did I do it justice?  And for those who don’t: what are you waiting for?  Get out there and buy this sucker before it really is too late!!

Thanks for reading!!

    LOL@trumpets!

It looks gorgeous on you and I love what you did with layering down the base colour! I can’t remember how many coats I applied to get full coverage, and I don’t think I cared at the time because I was so in love with the glitter. The texture is quite gritty and I think two layers of top coat works best, as you’ve discovered.

Happy birthday! I hope you have a great celebration and do enjoy your brilliant nails! :D :D :D

Not sure when your birthday is (or was!) but I do wish you the happiest day and tons of love! The colour looks spectacular on you and like Liz, I never thought of layering it over a darker base either (duh moment!). Seeing you wear this and hearing of your utter joy at finally obtaining it makes me appreciate mine all the more…and now I want to wear it again!
Enjoy the polish and wear it in beautifully good health! xox

Thanks for the birthday wishes! It was the best birthday I’ve ever had!! I am feeling very loved and content :)
I had so many people comment on this polish, because it just really catches the eye! Still loving it three days in (and showing hardly any wear at all!). I’m glad I can join in the ATU discussions from now on lol
