As mentioned a couple weeks ago, green has been noted to be one of ‘the’ colors of the season. We’ve seen the incarnation in several ways – army green/khaki nail polish is HUGE right now, and jade green was all over the runway. Even better, when it comes to makeup, green – especially rich, darker shades – tends to look great on almost any skin tone and eye color. Always on top of the trends, Make Up For Ever is promoting beautiful green eye makeup looks for Fall 2011, using some of their current products. I received one of their kohl liners in #4K (a deep green) last week, and couldn’t wait to try it out!
Ashamedly, I have never really owned a kohl pencil – save for a deluxe sample size of one of Clinique’s kohl liners, which feels NOTHING like this (it’s harder and drier). This liner went on so smooth and easily, but wasn’t so creamy that you couldn’t draw a precise line if you so desired. I was going for a more smoked-out look, so I applied the liner across my upper lash line and 2/3rds across the lower, and smudged it with my finger. It is so easy to work with!! It blended out beautifully, giving me the smoky effect far easier than anything else I’ve used. If I’d have known what kohl could do I would have been on this ages ago!
Here’s a description of these liners from Sephora (MUFE’s exclusive retailer):
What it is:
A khol pencil with an exceptionally smooth texture that can be used to achieve diverse looks, from dramatic to subtle.
What it does:
Soft, smooth and easy to apply, this Khol Pencil is specifically adapted to the sensitive and thin skin surrounding and inside the eye. Its formula is a particularly gentle blend of vegetable lipids, vitamin E, mango seed oil, hydrogenated cottonseed oil, and jojoba oil to keep the skin around the eyes hydrated. Suitable for even the most sensitive eyes.
After reading this description, I was even more excited and dedicated to my new found love of these kohl pencils. My eyes in the past year or so have been easily irritated by just about everything, if I’m not careful, and so to see that these are gentle makes me jump for joy. I wore it all day without any irritation at all, and was even able to wear it in the waterline, which I usually cannot attempt in the least! The actual wear time of this product, without primer, is pretty decent too – on my lash line, at least 9 hours with only the very slightest fading. On the waterline, it did fade after an hour or so, but did not smear or smudge at all. I’m not a big waterline wearer anyway so for me that’s no problem!
For some odd reason, MUFE spells kohl ‘khol.’ I thought it was a typo, but it’s written that way for this product everywhere. Maybe something we don’t know? In any case, this liner comes in 10 shades, in variations of black and blue, as well as purple, white, brown, green and gold. I fully intend on picking up a couple more when I’m next at Sephora (check out #6K, a black with gold flecks – swoon!), as I’m beyond impressed with their versatility, formula and excellent wear. I’ve read wonderful things about the Aqua Eyes liners (which I’ve not yet tried), but I feel confident in saying these give them a run for their money. I am also a huge fan of their newer Aqua liners (liquid), which I’ve reviewed here and here. So far, I haven’t found a MUFE product I didn’t love
What do you think of the ‘green’ trend? In what ways might you incorporate it into your look? What are your thoughts on Make Up For Ever products? Which ones stand out (or fall flat) to you?
