I’ve been diversifying a bit with the topics of my posts, but I still have a handful of nail polish swatches to show you, so I gotta get on it! I should be receiving my package from Nail Polish Canada any day now, so I’ll be on a swatchapalooza then! I can’t wait!!
Without further ado (because really…I think I ramble too much), please let me present to you the polish ‘Blackout’ from Icing’s nail polish line (Icing being Claire’s little sister I think):

I layered two coats of Blackout over OPI’s Diva of Geneva , as this polish is fairly thin and really needs some underwear first. You could get enough coverage after three coats, but not the same depth. I saw a post once where they layered this over China Glaze Ruby Slippers, and is was awesome. However, I was wearing a specific outfit with pink and wanted it layered over pink to coordinate. You can’t really tell but I would know. And I’m anal like that.
Cheap-y polish, $5.49 or something at Icing (sad that $5.49 seems like a steal now, after the price I’ve paid for some polishes!), and applies well with no real issues aside from the sheerness – which is sort of a given as this polish is pretty much a jelly. The holo shimmer in this is actually fairly apparent without any particular lighting (though it was tough to capture in photos), which is a plus. This isn’t a polish I wear often, but it doesn’t mean that I don’t appreciate it or or that it’ll go up for swap; sometimes there are *those* polishes that you really like but you just need the right occasion – this is one of those. Just the way it is, folks
I hope everyone is getting into the holiday spirit and enjoying all that the season brings! Don’t let all the hulabaloo get to you – remember what it’s all about – the rum ‘n eggnog! LOL ~kidding!~ Really though, I hope no one is stressing themselves out, it’s not worth it and it taints the beauty of this time of year!

It does look amazing!
But you know what I decided? No more layering for me. Not unless it’s a basic like a mattifying top coat, the flakies that Essie just released… I find that I just don’t bother with anything that requires more than the most basic step. I’m on nail polish overload and something’s gotta give.

I totally hear you loud and clear, Liz. This polish wasn’t a ‘layering’ polish when I bought it, it just happened that unless I wanted to put on four coats, it’d have to be layered over something to get the effect I was looking for. Which, is NOT an ideal situation – and as much as I admire some of the combinations you see on other people’s blogs, and I salivate over them, I just can’t get down with all that experimentation myself. And I’m not one for effect top coats either, so I’m REALLY lazy. Again, I’m just kinda into the polish itself without adding all this other stuff to make it work or make it better. So yeah. I getcha

I have to agree with Liz on this one, I’m afraid; I’m not all that keen on layering either (but I won’t discount it either: if some truly spectacular combo comes my way, I won’t say no!). I’ve been feeling a bit saturated with the various “effects” nail lacquers, and I think I need some “plain-er” downtime. That’s not to say that this isn’t pretty, because it definitely is and I am a sucker for glittery things….I just hate the removal part!

Having just concurred with Liz, I will say that you’re right Eugenia – if something truly amazing comes my way, I’m gonna try it and probably love it. But I am really not interested in experimenting; unless I see it on someone else first, I’ll never take the time to think about other possible combinations that I could try. I guess my creativity only goes so far. I can imagine you’re feeling burnt out from all the crazy polishes you’ve been swatching lately!! And being a nail polish ‘purist,’ as you’ve said, it must be time for a palette cleanser my dear
I think the Spring season (I know you love to be reminded of warmer weather! lol) will bring a little less glitz so it’ll be a breath of fresh air for all of us!

This looks like a great combination for new years! I would definitely go with the black and sparkles because it is totally appropriate for the night. It looks a little more holographic in the bottle though, does it come out this way on your nails ?

It’s not quite as holographic on the nail, but it holds its own pretty darn well for a $5 polish. The holo shimmer is almost always apparent, though not always very strong. I really like all aspects of it – the formulation, even despite its sheerness, is very easy to work with, and I love the final effect! NYE would certainly be perfect!
