Ever since I saw this makeover Christine from Temptalia had at Make Up For Ever, I have been eyeing the MUFE Star Powders at Sephora in a big way. For the longest time, I couldn’t bring myself to buy one because goodness knows I have enough eyeshadow, and it just seemed like a frivolous purchase. However, in my finishing-2011-with-a-bang spending spree, I scooped up #940 because obviously I needed a fun eyeshadow for the Holidays, right!?! Yeah, ok
I am developing quite the Make Up For Ever collection as of late, which rivals my NARS collection and gives it a serious run for its money. I have more diversity in my NARS products, but I might actually own more Make Up For Ever…I’ll have to do a post one day soon so we know for sure. In any case, the Star Powders ($21CAD) are extremely fine but dense shimmering powders that “catch the light and give skin a unique glow.” #940 is a whitish shimmer with orange flash – actually the same one used on Christine, though I purchased it because I was looking for a highlight kind of shade and it seemed to be the most flattering for my skintone. Let me tell you, this baby is gorgeous:

I wore this today in my inner corners and patted lightly on top of UD’s ‘Smog,’ with MAC’s Jealousy Wakes (from the Blogger’s Collection) in the crease and theBalm’s Jealous Jordana just above. It really complemented the look and actually made it somehow more work appropriate than the typical highlight shade I’d have used, which can give the look a more ‘going out’ vibe. However, it still stood out and was unique, too. It wore all day without much fading (and without a primer!). One tip they give online is that if you apply this product wet, you get more shine and better hold (which I think refers to the wear time), so I’m going to try that too.
I think the shade of #940 is best suited to warm-to-neutral skintones, due to the fiery orange flash, though I wouldn’t rule it out for cooler-toned skins – check it out first. There’s also a white-pink shade, #943, which might be better option if this doesn’t work. Overall, I really recommend taking a look at these – I’m so glad I picked this up and I wish I hadn’t waited so long! It’s definitely going to become a go-to shade for me rather than just a ‘special occasion’ shadow that I thought it would be!
Have you tried any of the MUFE Star Powders? What are your go-to shades that add a little something extra?

I have never tried these but I’ve always wanted to! The Pixiwoo girls use them all the time and they look so pretty! This one is gorgeous! Now that I know that they are worth it, I’ll have to actually get one now!

Years ago, I bought a Star Powder (not sure which one; I have to go through my stash to see, but that would take too long right now!), and I remember falling in love with it, even though I wasn’t sure how or when I would use it. Now, after a lot more experience under my belt, I feel more confident in dusting it off and giving it a shot, and thanks to you and your swatches here, I’m glad you reminded me of this gem! Love this one against your skin tone!

I’m not much for stars and glitter, but these always look absurdly fun to me! Glad you get to enjoy!

It’s not as over-the-top as you might imagine, Liz! This is a really lovely shadow, that adds a touch of fun without being too in your face. As its a loose formulation, I’d better love it as I’m not partial to them! Well worth it in this instance, though!
