Starting my resolutions early, today while at Sephora I picked up an eyeshadow I have been lemming for a couple months now: bare Escentuals High Shine Eyecolor in Meteorite ($20CAD), an ‘iced mocha.’ I think this description is fairly accurate – the shade borders on taupe, with hints of purple and bronze, while still looking like it would fit in the brown-ish family. I compared it to other shimmering metallics shades I have in my stash (UD’s Smog, MUFE’s Aqua Cream in #2 Steel, and the golden shade of NARS’ Rajasthan, among others), and none came even close – which is AWESOME as I hate to replicate colors!
With a spring-loaded applicator (supposedly to allow for easy, on-the-go application), the formula is free of preservatives or chemical irritants.
It’s a highly pigmented formulation that has a very intense metallic finish, and goes on extremely soft and smooth. I don’t even know how I came across it, as I usually tend to look at only products I’ve heard about before – but it just drew me in for whatever reason, and once I tried it, I knew I had to have it!
The photo above is without flash, and it’s pretty true to color (on me). Below, with flash, shows off a little more of the metallic finish, and pulls out the purple-ish tones.
I am super-excited to try out this color; from initial swatches and testing it has absolutely lovely texture, and pretty good staying power as I couldn’t get it off my hand very easily when rubbed. It doesn’t make any long-lasting claims but I think due to the nature of the shadow, it’ll hold up fairly well throughout the day (which I will update you on tomorrow after I try it out fully), which it did for the most part – through a blustery walk to work and a grueling run at the gym, it managed to stay put for a full 14 hours until I washed it off, with only the slightest creasing on my right eyelid. And that’s with absolutely no primer, so I’d say that’s pretty darn good!
There are 8 shades in total – most are neutral and all are metallic. I love a good shimmering shadow to ring in the New Year!!
Oh and PS – AWESOME NEWS!!!!!!! Sephora finally now offers free shipping in Canada after $75 (it used to be a ridiculous $120, when in the States is only $50). Everyone needs to rejoice!!! It’s about darn time this happened, every time I’m requested to do a survey online that’s my very first complaint. Hooray!! Now if they would only start selling Illamasqua in Canada, we’d be on to something

I love their Bare Minerals! I’ve seen and heard so much about their eye colors. Such a beautiful swatch! I just might have to go out and try it!

Ohhh you really should, Kat!! Apparently their new pressed shadows are also something else – I haven’t tried yet but I just may give in soon!!

I had no idea their shadows were so good! After my initial trial with the BE starter kit, I never really looked at the brand again (until the Playlist palette) but now you’ve got me turning in their direction. Glad you found such a good product! Enjoy!

I have to agree Liz, I wasn’t so into BE’s products much – I’m not a huge fan of loose powders (too messy) and the brand itself just doesn’t call to me. However, this little gem is awesome and its certainly made me think twice when I pass by the brand in the future. I looked and looked at the Playlists so many times, but there are just too many shades that are similar to ones I already own. I’m still jealous of anyone who owns it, though LOL!
