Review: Deborah Lippmann’s Stripper To Go Remover Mitts

While I LOVE nail polish (as you all well know) and doing regular manicures, one problem I encounter more than I’d like is needing to either touch up a nail or remove my polish completely while on the go – whether it be at work, traveling, or just out and about (I have a habit of doing my nails in random places lol).  I can’t stand having chipped nails, and when that happens, I always wish desperately that I had a little remover to just wipe the slate clean – I’d rather have bare nails than chipping ones.

If you have been reading this blog for a while, you may recall that last year I had an opportunity to try out Laqa & Co.’s Polish Remover Pads, which are housed in a cute little container and are perfect for toting around if you need quick removal.  However, I found that they were a bit dry and I could see them getting drier as time wears on, if they’re not used.  This week, I was given a chance to try out a product that has a similar purpose, but with the kinks fully worked out – Deborah Lippmann’s Stripper to Go Lavender Nail Lacquer Remover Finger Mitts (OMG…that is a mouthful!).The word ‘mitt’ used in this description is a bit misleading.  Waiting for them to arrive, I was imagining a big hand mitt that would somehow have remover in the tips or something.  Silly me!  What they actually are, are little finger mitts, like a fabric thimble, that you can put on and then proceed to remove the polish from all of your nails – yes, ALL 10 FINGERS.  They’re fully saturated with remover, and as they’re housed in little sealed packets, there is no fear of these babies drying out until you open them.  Since they come individually packaged, there’s no waste and you can just grab one and go!  So handy.I tried these out tonight to see how they fared in removing my polish.  Stupidly, I forgot at first and removed one hand with my regular remover, so I can’t fully claim they will remove polish from all 10 fingernails.  However, after removing just one hand, I can see I have plenty of room on the mitt to continue on with the other hand – and I can attest that there is plenty of remover on the mitt to accommodate for both hands.Initially the ‘lavender’ aspect was kind of lost on me – on the mitt, I can’t really smell it, although the scent isn’t the typical strong, offending odor that removers often have.  I read up on it, and discovered that the lavender is supposed to leave ‘a gentle scent on the skin, while protecting the delicate cuticle with its natural anti-bacterial properties.’ Huh.  I checked, and I can smell the faintest hint of lavender left behind on my nails, and I did notice that due to the inclusion of aloe vera as well as the lavender, my cuticles and nails were not dry after removal in the least.

There are 6 mitts per box, which retails for $12CAD on Nail Polish Canada, which generously gave me this product to review.  While the mitts are terribly handy to tote on the go, I’m also impressed overall with the formula of Lippmann’s remover, and will be giving the full bottle of The Stripper a good look as well.  If you’re a regular polish wearer, or just fancy being able to remove your polish whenever and wherever you please, these should be right up your alley!

Here’s another example of our “connection”: just yesterday, I received these new nail polish remover wipes, in a similar format to this one here! And like you, I stupidly removed my polish from one hand using my regular method, before I remembered to test it out on all 10 fingers!! Also like you, I have frequently found myself in need of something portable like this (I can’t stand seeing chipped polish either & when it happens, I want to remove it ASAP – although I’m not always home when the urge strikes!) I was wondering about these Lippmann wipes, and it’s good to know that they can do what they claim. In general, I am quite impressed with DL products, so I’d be interested in trying these little guys out too!

LOL Not too bright sometimes, are we? ;) Easy mistake to make I guess! I’m interested to know which remover wipes you were using and if you liked them as well.

As for chipping polish…OMG there is honestly nothing worse! These travel wipes are IDEAL for gals like us, thank goodness DL was thinking smart too!

on another note and now that i feel i know you… well we did meet once… i just have to say….I love that you know when to use the word “scent” and “smell” in the proper context hahaha my son calls me the grammar police… oh and I read one of your past blogs that you love blush… I was at work today and saw Buxom has new blush in… they look “real purdy” ;o)

LOL!!!! That’s so funny Barb! I’m glad that my grammar pleases you :P I am a stickler for it so I hope I’m not making any stupid mistakes! I appreciate that YOU appreciate good grammar as well.

Thank you for the heads up on the Buxom blush, I was wondering when they’d come in! I was in Sephora yesterday (sadly I didn’t see you :( ) and checked out them out, I am definitely going to be scooping up 1 or 2 of those, they DO look very “purdy”!

hahah what an intriguing product name! It’s good to hear that these work well, I lost faith in them after I tried the ones from B&BW. They were so dry by the time I opened them that it was like scraping slightly damp felt on my fingers…nada.

Also, I like the cute little finger mitt design. Brings me lots of joy :P

Hahah, yes, the mitt is quite cute :) Sounds like the B&BW were similar to the Laqa & Co ones I tried, it IS a highly unpleasant feeling to wipe dry pads over your nails, yuk! These ones are really great, if you get a chance, give them a go, I think they’ll help you regain your faith!

I’m SO glad you reviewed this! I’ve been curious about Lippmann’s Stripper forever and am determined to get a bottle as soon as I run out of my current remover. I have a nail woe and don’t want to use the cheap, drying stuff anymore. :( It pains me to have to shell out more than $5 for a bottle but I’d rather have my nails intact…

I think the Stripper remover as a whole is quite nice, so that’s a wise move Liz! I do find the normal drugstore brands are particularly harsh, and if you change your polish often like I do, it’s a must to have something gentle yet effective. I’ve been putting glycerine in the cheap brands to help with the dryness, but you still have to be careful with the type you choose – some are awful!

Oh yay! So happy there’s a review on this! I was wondering how these things looked! So can’t for travelling!

Yea, they’re awesome Kat!! Definitely grab some if you get the chance!

...And what do you have to say about all this?? Dish! :)
