Ah May. The ultimate Spring month here in Canada, full of…er, well, rain, and…well, OK, only sunshine some of the time here in Halifax, but it’s enough to get the buds on the trees come out and the flowers blooming! May ALSO happens to be the month of my birth (and that of two of my aunts, my mother, my boyfriend’s mother…adding to that Mother’s Day, and it’s a busy month), so I can’t help but be in good cheer.
This year, I turn the big 3-0! I’m pretty stoked, and as such I have a few treats I hope to indulge myself in, particular as it’s such a special year. I’m sorely tempted to really splash out, especially considering I’ve been so good this past month, but I think I’m going to try and hold off a bit longer. We shall see! In the meantime, here is my *reasonable* list of what I hope to spoil myself with this month:
1) NARS Trouville Nail Lacquer
This shade is just TOO pretty, and I could seriously use a bit of pumping up in my ~pretty / feminine~ stock of nail polish colors, particularlyl pink. I don’t own any NARS shades yet, so that’s always an extra incentive!
2) Clarins Kohl Kajal in Violet (from the Enchanted Summer collection)
After seeing the similar Guerlain kohl kajal liner, falling in love, and then seeing it compared to Clarins’ much more pigmented version at Beauty Black Book, I decided I MUST have this! The deep violet shade will be wearable in pretty much every season, and I’d love to try it out on my waterline.
The violet shade appears to not be sold here, or at least not in two of the Shoppers Drug Mart’s I’ve seen the collection in. I haven’t checked out Sears/The Bay yet, but WTF?! I want this even more now.
3) Dior Summer Mix Collection
I just can’t help but adore the fun mix of brights in this collection! Particularly I’m loving the polishes Acapulco (bright yellow) and Lagoon (bold ocean blue), and the repromote of the Orange Pareo lip gloss from the current Croisette collection, which I’m passing on right now but might be persuaded to change my mind in a few weeks
4) Chanel Delight Vernis (middle)
See a theme here? I’m back on a nail polish kick, I guess! The first promo shots I saw of this polish, I wanted it BAD. Then I talked myself out of it. Then I saw Eugenia’s shots (at Ommorphia Beauty Bar) and it reminded me just how amazing that polish is. I am buying this TOMORROW (Summertime de Chanel FINALLY arrived in store today!).
5) Burberry Beauty SOMETHING
I feel that as it’s my birthday month, and my 30th year at that, that an extra special something is in order. That typically means big $$ or ordering something from online / another province / country. I’ve been debating on what that should be exactly, but I think it’s time to splurge on some Burberry. The packaging itself just looks so damn luxurious! I want to resist buying another blush or eyeshadow, as I feel I have quite enough already thankyouverymuch, but I mean – what else is there? That I can buy sight-unseen. Because I don’t feel comfortable buying a lippie without trying it on. And I really want to buy one or two super-fantastical items for myself. So I’ve deemed Burberry is it. Probably Gold Trench eyeshadow and Rose blush. And I CANNOT FREAKIN’ WAIT.
So that’s my list for the month. All things I’d LOVE to own. However, this has been a strange past month. I haven’t been able to pull the trigger on buying much of anything. There are too many other things I’m trying to save for (a camera, a new phone, New Zealand…) that are weighing on my mind most of the time, and I just can’t seem to bring myself to spend money on items I don’t really *need*. Which isn’t much fun, is it!? However, my mother gave me birthday money to buy an Ikea Alex drawer unit (the black 6-drawer one on casters) and I have a feeling that once I have all that storage space for my makeup, I’m going to want to fill it up a bit
What are you lemming lately? Any great products I should know about!? Please, share!

It’s my birthday this month too! The 16th and my daughter is the 15th! I bought myself a Bobbi Brown palette, peony and python, can’t wait to get. I would love the Burberry items you listed and also add to that ANY YSL lippie. Just as a side note, I wouldn’t spend the $$$ on the CHANEL polish just yet, I’ve heard rumors of a new Revlon that is supposed to be dupes for the summer collection. Have you seen the Nars Thykoon collection? It’s awesome!
Happy Birthday!

Happy birthday to you and your daughter, Judi!! May is a good month
The Peony & Python palette is lovely, what a nice way to treat yourself! I hadn’t heard about the Revlon collection, so thanks for the heads up!! I didn’t buy any Chanel shades but if I regret that later its nice to know I’ll have a backup plan!
I did ogle the Thakoon collection and am majorly tempted to pick some shades up, but am holding out for now – though I may change my mind!

Happy birthday month to you and yours, Toya – LOL!! I have a feeling I’ll be opening up a lot with that line until the day arrives (the 28th, right?!)
Ok…I was pretty sure I wanted NARS’ Trouville also, until I swatched it quickly at the counter last week, and well, it fell a little flat on me — made me think twice to shell out for it seeing as how I was already splurging on so many other items…BUT I haven’t ruled it out yet!
I’m not sure of the exact date when the new Diors will drop, but every single one looks delicious and I may just have to indulge in at least one of those new glosses – would be my first Dior gloss, at that!
Ahhhhh…Burberry; I’m with you and just want a Burberry ANYTHING!!! I’m a total sucker for awesome packaging, and let’s face it — their range looks incredible!
Finally, thanks for the shout-out my friend! Glad to be of service!

The 28th is right
Good memory on you!! Thanks for the birthday wishes, I think it’s gonna be a good one!
Your comment on the NARS polish gave me pause – its sold out here already but I considered ordering it from Sephora online; however, typically I find what looks good on you works for me, so I might hold off just now. I’m glad you told me!
And anyway, I’d rather hold off on a so-so polish, for a one of those beautiful Dior’s anyway! I also don’t own any Dior glosses, but maybe that’ll change soon
And Burberry ~sigh~ What else is there to say, really??

Ooooh, the big 30! I had a giant dinner at a steakhouse with a bunch of girls and it was good times. Didn’t want to make a huge deal out of it but had to do something, ya know? It just struck me that you’re the same age as my sister and you’re both born in May (the one I keep referring to as a baby, LOL, but I don’t think of you as one). Looks like May is going to be a fabulous month for you and I hope the best year yet.
p.s. I’m not lemming new things badly but I do want Chanel Holiday! Sigh, so pretty, and a dead ringer for that stupid Dior Aloha that they wouldn’t sell on its own in Canada.

I love and hate lemmings, Liz!! I love how exciting it is if you pick one up (guilt-free, of course), but how torturous it is if you miss out or if you can’t justify it at the moment. Unfair! I hope either you can pick it up and enjoy it fully, or be at peace with it not getting it – its so frustrating otherwise!
May babies are awesome!
I think this is going to be a good year too – I will make it so! Initially I wanted to do something HUGE like go to NYC for my 30th, but when I came back to Earth and realized I’d be there all by myself lol, I stopped having any expectations and just figured I’d work to make the whole year one of my best. My bf is planning something so I’ll let him surprize me with something fun, and that’s good enough for me!

Eeee, I love birthdays! If you can’t find the Clarins Kohl Kajal in Canada, I would be happy to send it to you from the States
And I can’t wait to see what you end up deciding to get from Burberry; I have so much I want to try from them!
#8 by Latoya on May 12, 2012 - 3:46 pm
Aw Amy, that is super-nice of you to offer!! I’m checking The Bay today but if I don’t see it kickin’ around I just might take you up on that, thank you!!
Birthdays are fun, and this one in particular deserves some extra attention – and some extra treats!!

Yay for exciting birthday months! I hope you have the best one yet. Anything planned for the actual day yet? A definite YES to Burberry, their eyeshadows look amazing and I am lemming them hardcore. Aside from that, I’m lemming the red lipstick from Kate Moss’ Rimmel collection…haven’t been able to find it anywhere and also have to remind myself that I’m on a ban. And I’m always lusting after candles and JLC watches, but we won’t put those in the ‘feasible lemmings’ category. Both are off limits to me right now lol.
#10 by Latoya on May 12, 2012 - 3:49 pm
Thanks for the good wishes MM, I hope for the same!! I think it’ll be a great year
My bf is planning *something* for my celebration the weekend before – love surprizes! – but the day of I’m just gonna kick back. Its my day off and I’ve got a massage planned – ohhh yeahhhh
Burberry = drool, that’s for sure! I’m not sure I’ve even seen the Kate Moss red out there either, but I’ve read about it. What’s the hold-up I wonder??
And what are JLC watches? Clearly I am un-informed…
#11 by makeupmorsels on May 12, 2012 - 5:54 pm
target had the display when I went, but they were sold out of the red booo. Jaeger-LeCoultre watches, I love their men’s watches they are so pretty….drool

PS: I forgot to add in my earlier comment, that I spotted the Clarins Kohl Kajal pencils just last week at The Bay! Think I’ll be indulging in the indigo shade as well!
#13 by Latoya on May 12, 2012 - 3:50 pm
Sweet, thanks for the head’s up Euguenia? I’m headed there today so I’ll be keeping an eye out!!

Hehe you know I’ll be in Barb, thanks for the reminder! I’m trying to figure out what pretty treat I’ll get when I’m in-store. Happy birthday to your son!! 21 is a great ages
#16 by Larie on May 11, 2012 - 1:28 pm
Yay for birthdays! And birth months
I know you passed on Chanel summer, but have you seen the new Burberry powder? I suspect it might be a little light for you, but it’s definitely pretty. But their eye shadows! I don’t own any but I’ve swatched some (the only paraben-free thing in Burberry’s line, damnit) and they’re gorgeous. The lip mists also get a lot of raves. Can’t wait to see what you do pick up!
#17 by Latoya on May 12, 2012 - 12:43 pm
Thanks Larie!! I did take a look at the Burberry powder, but I think you’re right – it’ll be too light. The rest of the line though? BRING IT ON
#18 by Christine Brigid on May 11, 2012 - 1:51 pm
Happy birthday! I think the Burberry purchase is a GREAT idea….such a treat for the big 3-0. Enjoy your 30s… I’m 34 and they have been the best years of my life (although not without heartache, but such is the life).
#19 by Latoya on May 12, 2012 - 12:46 pm
Aww, nice Christine! That’s awesome to hear
Thanks for the birthday wishes!! I initially hedged at picking up the Burberry, but then realized that 30 is a big milestone and deserves to be celebrated properly. Can’t wait to try it!!
#20 by Liz on May 12, 2012 - 9:05 pm
Thank you for the mention! I can’t believe you’re unable to get the Clarins Kajal…does Nordstrom ship to you? I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it makes it your way.
xoLiz
PS. Those Dior summer polishes look so fun!
#21 by Latoya on May 13, 2012 - 6:40 am
Nordstrom does ship, but the shipping cost is like $20, so I usually go with Neiman Marcus
Anyway, I found the liner at The Bay, Liz! I tried it on but didn’t love that it was a bit fussy to use – however, it lasted well and is a lovely shade so I may change my mind yet!
