Mani-Pedi Combo Using a Fave and a Dud

In my challenge to post original Summer polish combo’s, I decided to create a pairing using one of my favorite shades, butter London’s Snog (which also happens to be the number one ‘search’ for people who stumble upon the blog), and match it with a total snooze of a shade, Zoya’s Cho – which if you recall, totally left me cold.  I learned last year from some of my favorite fellow bloggers, that sometimes a shade which falls flat on the hand can work as a pedicure shade just fine, so I gave Cho one more chance to WOW me and used it as the pedi shade in this instance.  Before I give you my judgement, let me give you time to view the results:

I actually liked this combo a lot!!  I find it can be tricky when wearing a lot of bright shades, not to overdo it, so I’ve been pairing them with more neutral colors – and this works quite well, I think.  The contrast of Snog’s brightness makes Cho look appropriately subdued but not so boring.  Also, Cho worn on the toes looks WAY nicer than on my hands – it makes them look so clean and sophisticated.  I particularly liked how it looked with these sandals:

I’m really happy that Cho ended up being less lame then originally thought – I may never wear it on my hands again, but as a pretty pedi shade, it means that it’ll stay in my collection rather than getting the boot (I was sorely tempted before!).  Snog is just all-around fabulous, and isn’t going anywhere.  I actually think this is one of the few products in my beauty life that I would repurchase once it ran out (which is a strong possibility!).  It’s just so juicy and vibrant and shiny and awesome!  I highly recommend picking up a bottle.

What mani/pedi combo do you favour?  What is your ultimate Summer polish shade?

I actually kind of like Cho! My theory is that your skin is such a fabulous colour that you need nail polishes that are fabulous, too — which Cho is NOT. I mean, it’s pretty, but it’s not FABULOUS. It does look good on your toes, though. :)

Haha aw, thanks Dani! I like that theory :P You’re right though, Cho is not fabulous – but much nicer on toes, eh??

They both look GORGEOUS on you!!! Cho looks fantastic on your toes — the perfect nude. I find that a lot of lighter shades that look funny on my hands look great on my toes. Possibly because my feet are also a lot lighter… (I don’t get a lot of sun on my feet ’cause I don’t wear open-toe shoes.) My ultimate summer shade is definitely OCC’s Pool Boy right now. :)

Thank you!!!! Yea, Pool Boy is a stunner, Denise!! It’s too bad that those shades of blue aren’t the nicest on me, because they’re so lovely in the Summer!

I am pleased that Cho look nice on toes, the lightness of it does work, huh?

I absolutely love this shade as a pedi colour, and for all the reasons you listed! Lately, I’ve been wavering between wearing either really moody shades or crisp & clean lighter hues and Cho definitely fits the bill on that score!

    PS: the cutest toes!
PPS: those sandals are to die for!

Thank you, thank you, and thank you Eugenia!! :) I got the sandals at Payless a few years ago!

I think I am nearing the end of my love of brights (just for the season) as Fall shades creep up on me, so I know what you mean. I’m still wearing them, but pairing them with tones like you said – moody or clean. Easing my way, so to speak :)

I think Cho totally works as a pedicure shade!!! Hurray! I’m glad you were able to re-purpose it :D

I’ve been feeling vampy colors lately – have Zoya Ashley on my toes right now, and I’m really pleased!

LOL sounds like we’re all on the same page, Larie! Fall shades are slowly infiltrating our minds…and months of wearing brights is wearing thin. I may still want to hang on to Summer weather, but bring on Fall colours! :)

And ‘re-purpose’ is a great term for it haha

Zoya Cho looks very flattering on your skin :) I swatched it once and it looks awful with me. Butter LONDON snog is pretty :)

Smog is the BEST, though I can never seem to fully capture it’s glory! Cho is tricky, admittedly, and I wouldn’t be concerned if it didn’t work – there are so many other truly fabulous shades out there!!

hahahah a fave and a dud, love that title. Cho looks great with those sandles, I agree it’s so much better on toes. Nice thinking!

I like these combos, I love pairing my own tips and toes. I actually do like that Zoya shade, I’m seeing a lot of creamy whites for fall. The pink is lovely, how is Butter’s formula. I purchased a polish from them a long time ago and it was terrible, I never bought it again. Wonder if they improved at all?
    xx

Oh gosh, I find their formula fantastic Taylor – really great. I’ve only been into the brand for about 2 yrs so I don’t know what the formula was like previously, but no issues now it seems! And this shade is just amazing! I say give ‘em one more try! :)

And the Zoya has turned into a good pick in the end – I’m so pleased :) It works for all seasons I think!

Wow, your mani/pedi looks SO fab! Did you do it yourself? If so, you did an amazing job with it! I suck so bad at doing my nails…especially toes. I do like this combo on you too! It all works

    • #18 by Latoya on July 26, 2012 - 5:46 am

Thanks so much Becca! I did do these myself :) All I really want out of a pedi is someone to massage my feet lol – I’d rather do the polishing on my own. I’m glad you like the combo!!

I love them both! I’m seriously lusting after your sandals. Where are they from?

    • #22 by Latoya on July 30, 2012 - 12:28 pm

I got them from Payless a few years ago! They’re sweet, eh? I’m glad you dig ‘em :) And as you’re a polish authority, I’m also pleased you like both polish shades – thanks Lola!

Love the combo! That pale shade looks lovely on your tanned feet! My feet are about the same shade as the polish haha!

LMAO!!!! Tracy you’re hilarious :P But remember, that’s probably why you look so great, you wear mega-sunscreen and keep your porcelain skin beautifully line-free :)
