The Colours of Love: Pinks & Reds

This is going to be a post with many pictures and few words.  After a week where I was falling asleep by 9:30pm, now I’ve had insomnia the past few nights so I’m gonna try and get some shut eye early this evening!

With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, I’m all about pushing a huge pink/red theme in all things beauty.  I’ve been rocking a serious pink flush and juicy pink lips every day this week so far, and have a pretty pink mani to boot!  If you’re on the hunt for pink or red makeup and polish this week, look no further – I’ve gotcha covered ;)

Let’s begin with some cool pink blush and lippies:

Though my skin truly leans neutral, I still find that blue-based pinks are my JAM and really pop on my skin tone.  Love ‘em!

Next we have some warm pink cheek and lip colours:

After doing these swatches, I think I should have swapped the Chanel blush for Illamasqua Unrequited, as the former is more cool and the latter is more warm. Oops ~shrugs~  Some of the ‘warm’ pink lippies are probably more neutral in tone, but you can see they’re not that cool when you compare them to the ‘cool’ lip colour swatches above. It’s all about comparing and contrasting!

Bringing a little more sass and edge, red is a great alternative when you don’t want the sweetness of pink.  Sadly, I do not have a great stash of red blushes (horrors!) but I plan on picking up MUFE’s Scarlet Blush/Eyeshadow in the near future.  I don’t really feel that I need more than 3 reds – one warm, one cool, one neutral – but goodness knows I may change my mind if I find a few good ones.  Red blush seems hard to come by!

Red lips, however, and happily bountiful with SO many options to choose from, it’s just plain crazy.

…Aaaand photos:

I find my red lippies all look the same in swatches…and in real life, they are quite close.  L’Oreal’s Endless Red is obviously more glossy, and MUFE’s N46 is slightly more blue-based, but overall they’re all close in shade.  Time to diversify, methinks! An orange-red is my next purchase :)

Finally, we have some pretty pink and red polishes for you to peruse!  Though I don’t profess to wear much of either shade, I have a reasonable size stash of both (though again, the red lacks variety):

Pink & Red Nail PolishFront row, left to right: Zoya Kissy, China Glaze Ahoy!, butter London Snog, L.A. Girl Hyper, Essie Muchi Muchi, Rescue Beauty Lounge Poco a Poco
Back row, left to right: China Glaze Ruby Pumps, Essie Limited Addiction, American Apparel Downtown LA, butter London Come to Bed Red

So there you have it! A few ideas to get your mind going (and perhaps your wallet screaming?).  I picked up a couple more pink items this past week which I hope to show you before the 14th. Time to get girly, ya’ll!!

Do you wear pink makeup or nail polish?  Is red a staple colour you wear or do you shy away from it?

I HAVE SO MUCH PINK. SO MUCH. In fact, I have two red blushes, and one of them is mostly pink. No true reds at all. I have more red lip products, but I always tend to gravitate towards pinky-reds or orangey-reds, unless I’m going for a real BAM in-your-face red lipstick kinda look. Weirdly, I own very few red and pink polishes, and the pinks are usually very coral-ly. I prefer neutrals or blues/greens on my nails.

Yea, Im not a huge fan of pink for nails, but seem to have found a few shades that seem to work :) I also recently picked up two more pink polishes, so maybe Im having a change of heart! Im not surprised by your own stash Sarah, you have a great colouring that makes a bright lip totally rock!

GIVE ME ALL YOUR BLUSH! I can’t believe it, we don’t have a single overlap in the red and pink blush category! And why in the world did NARS discontinue that gorgeous red crème blush? *mourns*

    • #6 by Latoya on February 12, 2014 - 5:26 pm

LOL! I’m surprise to we have no overlap, how crazy!! It makes want to rummage thru your stash as well ;)

I want to see!!! I’d love to see all your reds desperately, Larie :D

My reds vastly outnumber my pinks, but your swatches have made me want to pick up some more of the latter…that Joe Fresh blush is gorgeous!

    • #10 by Latoya on February 13, 2014 - 9:36 pm

It’s actually really awesome, for the cheap price!! One thing – it does have a slightly chemical smell, but you can’t notice it once it’s on your cheeks.

Great selection of pinks and reds! :)

I think I’m pretty even for reds and pinks in lipsticks, but I definitely have more pink blushes than red. Though, that having been said, I think I have too much of both in general. :P Weirdly enough, I’m not huge into pink or red for nails (though, of course, I have some staple shades of both), but I love them both on the face. I actually love pink eyeshadow, too. I have a couple of red eyeshadows but they can look mighty sickly if not paired properly, LOL.

Yes, I have a feeling that if anyone can pull off pink or red eyeshadow, it would be you Denise!! I’m curious to know what red blushes you have….

SO much gorgeousness in one post! LOVE the beautiful color and finish of the Joe Fresh blush. Also really digging the Illamasqua Divine gloss. Not for me, of course (I honestly can’t pull off cool shades like that!) but it just pops on your beautiful skin! :D

    • #14 by Latoya on February 18, 2014 - 7:18 pm

The Joe Fresh blushes are quite nice! Sarah from Beauty and the Baked Goods first gave me one (a neutral), and then I picked up the pink one you see here. And the Illamasqua gloss is awesome, its true. I would like to see these shades on your skin tone, because I have a feeling its just finding the right colour for you! On me the really pop, and I never thought theyd work but turns out their quite awesome! :)

Well you know how I feel about red hahahahha. Not a huge fan of pink polish, although I will wear pink lipstick occasionally (mostly the obnoxiously bright ones, I’ve found). Love your collection though! Such a nice range of pretties, and yay for that orange-red purchase on the horizon. Do let us know which one you choose :) Have you tried Korres Cheek Butter in Chara Crimson? It’s more berry than red but it is my favorite FAVORITE blush, and like you I find my skintone leans truly neutral.

    • #16 by Latoya on February 18, 2014 - 7:15 pm

Ok, looked it up, and its on my wish list now – THANKS MM! :P And yes, definitely more about bright pink lippies rather than soft pink – but there is a time and place for all, I guess (and I like to have a well-rounded collectiongives me an excuse to buy more lol).

...And what do you have to say about all this?? Dish! :)
