Summer Polish Combo: Zoya Robyn with Essie Come Here

Happy Canada Day!!!  It’s been a busy week and an even busier weekend, as usual!  I had an excellent weekend celebrating Canada’s 146th birthday, even despite the fact that the weather has been absolute CRAP.  Sometimes though, the fact that everyone pulls together to make the best of a shitty situation (in this case, crazy rain and wind for DAYS) is almost better than if everything had been perfect.  And when you’re doing all this with the people you care about, well, then it’s all gravy 😀

Summer Polish Combo

As the weather has been hit or miss this summer so far (with more misses than hits), I haven’t been very concerned about my mani/pedi situation, but last week after picking up those few new shades, it was due time to get on it!  Below I tried out two of the shades, Zoya Robyn – a bright sky blue – and Essie Come Here, a coral red from the 2013 Resort collection.  Both are perfect vibrant summer shades that work well on both fingers and toes – I love them!

Summer Polish Combo (4)

Zoya Robyn was a unique addition to my polish collection – most blue shades I have lean teal or aqua, or are more of along the lines of a deep navy.  This eye-catching shade is perfect for spring and summer, and I really love it!  I wasn’t sure about it on my hands at first, but it really grew on me and I ended up wearing it for a full four days.  The formula is thin which means you have to be a bit careful in application, but it only required two coats so it’s not terribly fussy.  It wore exceptionally well and I only had minor tip wear after those four days.

Zoya Robyn (2)

Essie Come Here is my kind of shade!  I love the strong red leaning that sometimes leans pink and sometimes leans more orange.  It looks fabulous on toes and will go with pretty much any shade I pair it with.  Formula was lovely with absolutely no issues or tricks required for application.  100% win!  I haven’t yet worn Essie Come Here on my fingernails, but I am eager to – below I have a few comparison swatches to show you (aka justify my purchase); it’s really not like anything I personally own.

Essie Come Here! comparison Essie Come Here! comparison (3)Top to bottom: butter London Snog, Essie Come Here, China Glaze Surfin’ for Boys, Essie Meet Me at Sunset

I thought Snog was going to be quite close, but it’s far too pink.  Surfin’ for Boys is in the right vein but much lighter and with shimmer.  Meet Me at Sunset is clearly too orange, but it has the same intensity of saturation.  From what I understand, Essie’s Ole Caliente and Flirt are very similar to Come Here, so if you have either of those, you’re probably set.  Bottom line: It’s a great shade that I’m totally diggin’!

What do you think of this combo?  Have you come up with any great combinations of your own lately?

I love this combination! Currently, I’m wearing OPI ElePhantastic Pink on my nails and OPI A Good Man-darin is Hard to Find on my toes, and I am really loving it!

Ooh, what a fab combo!! Love the color clash, I’ve been meaning to do something similar 🙂

Great picks! Those shades just scream summer, and your manicure job is so damn neat. (Do my nails next time we meet.) I used to look at Robyn quite often but had some similar blues and didn’t feel justified.

Yea, I don’t think Robyn is particularly unique – I was torn between a few similar choices but in the end went for it! I don’t know how I didn’t have a shade like it before. And I will most certainly give you a mani next time I’m up, Liz (I really need to plan this visit already)!

I must get come here! I love orange red polish. It is so retro but also works with classic looks. Is there anything better? Right now I am wearing Julep’s Gloria. It looked a little muted in the bottle but its so fabulous and succulent on. I feel like a proper retro babe in it. I tried a tricolor nail with Julep’s Annie and Deborah Lippmann in glamorous life. Looks good but I prefer Gloria on its own.

Ohh I just googled Gloria, that is SO fabulously retro, M! Gorgeous. I don’t own any Julep polishes but I should check ’em out. And yea, you really can’t beat a coral red in any capacity. So hot.

I bought four colors from Julep on sale a while back. two of them I love, one of them is meh, and the last one was just streaky. You get less product and the price ain’t cheap. Plus, the bottles are kind of tall, so I felt like I couldn’t dip the brush back into them without holding the bottle. But, the two I love look great 🙂 Based on those four polishes I have tried, Essie is a better value!

I like that combo! Looks beautiful. Robyn looks lovely. I’ve only used two Zoyas, but I was really impressed with the formula of my two. It’s hard to find in Ottawa, though; most places have stopped carrying it.

    • #9 by Latoya on July 2, 2013 - 12:07 pm

Really? Interesting. We’ve only really ever had two places that carry it here so I just order online from NPC. It’s worth checking out Sarah, the brand has a generally good formula!

The contrasts between these two shades, just…totally works! Love it against your skin tone and from the other corals you own, I have to say that Come Here is my absolute fave!

    • #13 by Latoya on July 5, 2013 - 7:18 am

Agreed Eugenia! I absolutely love this shade, I had it on for almost two weeks which is unheard of, and loved it the entire time. So glad I picked it up!!!!

BTW, I love all the different shades of coral on you at the same time! I hope you rocked that, and not just for the swatches. So cute!

    • #15 by Latoya on July 5, 2013 - 4:14 pm

I never thought about it, but I should have eh?? Damn. Next time!

I still haven’t tried Julep polishes, but Essie is pretty consistent for me – I don’t own a shade that I don’t love. This one in particular is a HUGE hit for me – I didn’t want to take it off!!

Thanks Tracy! It’s one of the better ones I’ve put together, I think 🙂

LOVE the blue/coral combo!!! Come Here! is actually one of the corals I like wearing ’cause it’s more reddened and vibrant. I’ve been doing a similar sort of combo with robin’s egg blue and cherry red (Julep’s Jackie + Robin) — I alternate the two colours on my fingers. 🙂

    • #19 by Latoya on July 8, 2013 - 7:21 am

Ohh cherry red would be a great alternative, Denise! I don’t think I own a cherry red…might have to rectify that ;P

Love this combo! Pairing just about anything with Chanel’s Azure has been my combo. I especially love Azure paired with DL’s Mermaids Dream or YSL Vert D’orient. Xx

    • #21 by Latoya on July 9, 2013 - 5:37 am

Thanks Taylor! I have to agree, Azure is so gorgeous, I want to wear it with everything too 😀

Oh, so pretty! I’ve come to see the appeal of bright creams, though shimmer/glitter will always come first in my heart…

Haha we always have our preferences, eh?? So many options!!!
